American Johnson Wagner returned to the top of the leaderboard after the third round of the Greenbrier Classic at Old White TBC.
The 33-year-old Texan, who is seeking his fourth PGA Tour success, carded a six-under 64 to move to 14-under 196, two shots ahead of compatriot Jimmy Walker.
Wagner had shared the first-round lead with Tommy Gainey after shooting a 62 on Thursday, but he started the day one off the pace following Matt Every’s 62 on Friday.
Every quickly dropped out of the lead after starting his third round with back-to-back bogeys and Wagner was able to make his mark with three birdies over the first five holes.
A bogey at the par-four seventh checked his charge, but further birdies at the ninth, 10th, 12th and 18th took him clear of the pack.
“Today my goal was to go out and make as many birdies as I could, and I did that,” said Wagner after sinking a 12-foot birdie putt at the par-three last and pumping his right fist in delight.
